Stites & Harbison is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Construction Law Paralegal to support attorneys in our Construction Service Group. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is committed to delivering exceptional client service. This is an in-office position based in our Lexington office.

Job Summary

The Paralegal provides substantive legal support to attorneys in the Construction Service Group. Responsibilities include drafting and reviewing legal documents, assisting with contract preparation and administration, conducting legal research, organizing transaction files, coordinating due diligence, preparing correspondence, and supporting attorneys with a variety of construction-related legal matters.

  • This is a nonexempt position.
  • Hours: Monday through Friday – 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (lunch noon-1:00 p.m.)
  • Dress Code: Professional/Business Casual

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and revise construction contracts and related legal documents.
  • Assist attorneys with contract administration and project documentation.
  • Organize and maintain client files and legal documents.
  • Prepare correspondence, memoranda, and reports.
  • Coordinate document execution and signature processes.
  • Assist with due diligence and document review for construction projects.
  • Track deadlines and maintain project files.
  • Communicate with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal staff.
  • Utilize document management software to organize and maintain legal records.
  • Perform other substantive paralegal and administrative duties as assigned.
  • Assist attorneys with monthly billing and invoicing each month.

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies, or a Paralegal Certificate, or a four-year Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of paralegal experience, preferably in construction law, commercial transactions, real estate, corporate law, or a related legal practice.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements

  • In-depth knowledge of current legal issues and trends in construction law.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools, litigation software, word processing, and spreadsheet applications.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to compile, organize, and verify information.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including track changes. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and effectively utilize new technologies, including document management systems, legal
  • software, collaboration platforms, and AI tools, as they are adopted by the firm.
  • Advanced writing skills including the ability to draft legal documents and coorespondences clearly and accurately.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact with attorneys, clients, and external parties to coordinate and discuss complex legal matters.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and solve practical problems, often with limited standardization.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain and prioritize multiple cases and projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and clients.
