Stites & Harbison is seeking a senior associate with significant experience in energy regulatory matters to join our practice in Kentucky. This is an opportunity to work on sophisticated regulatory matters for utility and energy clients alongside attorneys who are leaders in the field, with a clear path for professional growth.
The successful candidate will represent clients in proceedings before the Kentucky Public Service Commission and other state and federal regulatory agencies and will advise clients on the full range of energy and utility regulatory issues, including rate cases, certificates of public convenience and necessity, compliance matters, and related litigation and transactional support.
This position is based in our Lexington, Kentucky office. Candidates located in or willing to relocate to the Lexington area are preferred; exceptional candidates in other Kentucky markets may be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in contested proceedings before the Kentucky Public Service Commission, including rate cases, enforcement matters, and certificate proceedings.
- Prepare pleadings, testimony, discovery, briefs, and other filings in regulatory proceedings.
- Counsel electric, gas, water, telecommunications, and renewable energy clients on regulatory compliance and strategy.
- Monitor and analyze legislative and regulatory developments affecting the energy and utility sectors.
- Work collaboratively with attorneys across the firm’s offices and practice groups.
- Develop and maintain client relationships and contribute to the growth of the practice.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and strong academic credentials.
- Licensed to practice in Kentucky.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in energy regulatory matters, preferably including practice before the Kentucky Public Service Commission or comparable state utility commissions.
- Experience at a public utility commission, state agency, utility company, or law firm regulatory practice is highly valued.
- Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple matters independently.
