Halloween is one of the fastest growing consumer holidays in the United States. According to the National Retail Federation's Halloween Consumer Spending Survey, total spending on Halloween in the United States â which includes costumes, candy, and decorations â is expected to reach $7.4 billion. Americans will spend an average of $77.52 per person on Halloween this year. This is up from last year's average of $75.03, according to the survey.
My family is doing its part to contribute to the spending. Like most people, we will be handing out candy at our house. This year will also be the first "real" trick or treating experience for my three year old, and he is pumped. He will be a Vanderbilt football player, which is perhaps one of the scariest costumes available given Vanderbilt's struggles this year.
