Before joining Stites, Samuel was a judicial law clerk with the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board in Alexandria, Virginia (2020-21) and Mechanical Patent Examiner with the USPTO Patent Examining Corps TC 3700. He also has engineering experience through co-ops with Advanced Solutions Inc. Life Sciences, University of Louisville Rapid Prototyping Center and Peptides International Inc.
Samuel enjoys exploring the outdoors and riding bikes around the city with his wife Katelyn. He is always looking for new and interesting places around Nashville.
In early September of 2021, the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit clarified the notice requirement of 35 U.S.C. § 287. Patentee’s seeking to recover damages on unmarked goods must ensure their notice to a potential infringer is an actual notice of infringement and not merely notice of a patent.
