The Torts and Insurance Group defends, prosecutes, and oversees litigation involving all types of personal injury, property damage, business torts, and insurance-related disputes. Drawing on a long tradition of skilled trial advocacy, members of the group practice nationwide in all state and federal courts, participate in multi-district litigation, and manage class actions. Typical activities include developing and implementing litigation strategies and tactics, devising and executing discovery, investigating fire and accident scenes, selecting and employing appropriate technical consultants and expert witnesses, mediations, arbitrations, taking cases to trial, and pursuing appeals. Representative clients include a broad cross-section of industrial, consumer, medical, and pharmaceutical product manufacturers in product liability lawsuits and risk prevention; healthcare providers in medical malpractice allegations; directors, officers, and accountants in tortious errors or omissions; owners, manufacturers, and insurers in fires, explosions, and catastrophic losses; airports and aviation interests in aircraft accidents; common carriers, fleet operators, and individuals in automobile and truck accidents and ICC regulatory issues; companies, employers, and individuals in allegations of tortious business conduct; media interests in defamation claims and news gathering issues; and insurance companies, brokers, and agents in coverage questions and risk management.
