Related Information
NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Stites & Harbison attorney Julian Bibb was recently awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Tennessee Historical Commission in recognition of his work to preserve Tennessee's cultural heritage.
A Certificate of Merit is awarded annually by the Tennessee Historical Commission, a division of the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation whose mission it is to preserve Tennessee's historical sites.
"This award is presented to those individuals who dedicate themselves to historical preservation and/or the study of our state's history," said Patrick McIntyre, executive director of the Tennessee Historical Commission. "Because Julian has made such an impact on historical preservation in the Tennessee region, we are proud to recognize his accomplishments."
As director of Franklin's Charge, a coalition of Middle Tennessee organizations and individuals dedicated to the preservation of historic open space, Bibb was integral in the efforts to create a battlefield park in commemoration of the 1864 Battle of Franklin. He also serves on the board for the Land Trust for Tennessee and the Tennessee Civil War Preservation Association.
"Julian is a driving force in the effort to preserve land that is of national historical significance," said Ernie Bacon, president of Franklin's Charge. "His leadership has greatly contributed to our success."
In addition to his involvement in preserving Civil War battlefield property, Bibb has been involved for almost two decades in historic preservation efforts in Williamson County. While he has worked to preserve a number of historic sites and park land, he has also drafted local legislation aimed at supporting historic preservation.
"For the past twenty years, Julian has been heavily involved in supporting historic preservation in Franklin and Williamson County," said Mary Pearce, executive director of the Heritage Foundation. "The Heritage Foundation, Land Trust for Tennessee and Franklin's Charge have all greatly benefited from his work."
Bibb has been integral in the promotion of heritage tourism as an economic development engine. He has also been active in the preservation of important and historic open space throughout Middle Tennessee, the South Cumberland region and Sequatchie Valley.
