Twenty new associates join Stites & Harbison

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 3, 2006)—Stites & Harbison announced today the addition of twenty new associates firm wide.

Here is a closer look at the Atlanta attorneys.  Both are admitted to practice in Georgia.

Amy M. Lovell, a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., is a member of the Real Estate Service Group.  She graduated from the University of Georgia School of Law, Athens, Ga., in 2006.  Prior to joining the firm, Lovell was a summer associate for Stites & Harbison in 2004 and 2005.  Before that she worked for Bank of America as a product analyst from June 2002 to June 2003.

LaTasha V. McAlpine is a native of Montgomery, Al.  She is a member of the Intellectual Property Service Group.  McAlpine graduated from the Emory University School of Law in Atlanta in 2006.  Prior to joining the firm, she was an Intellectual Property Law Clerk from August 2004 to April 2005 and a summer associate 2004 and 2005 for Stites & Harbison in Atlanta.  In 2001 she was a summer manager for AT&T Research Laboratory in Middletown, N.J.

Neal F. Bailen, a native of Louisville, Ky., is a member of the Torts & Insurance Practice Service Group.  He graduated in 2006 from Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington, Ind.  Before becoming an associate with Stites & Harbison, Bailen worked for the firm as a summer associate in 2004 and 2005.

Here is a closer look at the Lexington, Ky., attorneys.  All are admitted to practice in Kentucky.

Jennifer E. Drust is a native of Lebanon, Pa.  She is a member of the Environmental, Natural Resources & Energy Service Group.  Drust graduated magna cum laude from Vermont Law School, South Royalton, Vt., in 2005.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, Ms. Drust was a law clerk, September 2005 to 2006, for Judge Stephens of the Alaska Superior Court, Ketchikan, Alaska.  She also worked in Washington, D.C., as a legal extern, for Judge  Kollar-Kotelly of the U.S. District Court, District of Columbia, and as a law clerk for the U.S. Department of Justice, Environmental Enforcement Section, Washington, D.C.

Laura M. Bennett is a native of Moorpark, Calif.  She is a member of the Business & Finance Service Group.  Bennett graduated in 2006 from Santa Clara University School of Law, Santa Clara, Calif.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, Bennett worked as a summer associate in Stites & Harbison's Lexington, Ky., office in 2005.  Before that she was a legal intern for Align Technology, Inc., Santa Clara, Calif., from 2004 to 2005.

Laura Leigh Mays is a native of Beattyville, Ky.  She is a member of the Torts & Insurance Practice Service Group.  Mays graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2006.  Before joining Stites & Harbison, Ms. Mays was a Summer Associate, summer 2004, at Greenebaum Doll & McDonald, PLLC, Lexington, Ky.  She also worked as a legal assistant, fall 2002 to fall 2003, at Harris & Johnson, LLP, Lexington, Ky.

John W. Pollom, a native of Danville, Ky., is a member of the Business Litigation Service Group.  He graduated from William and Mary School of Law, Williamsburg, Va., in 2006.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, Pollom was a research assistant for Professor James Moliterno at William and Mary School of Law, Williamsburg, Va.  He also worked as a clerk/intern for the Honorable James Keller, Kentucky Supreme Court, Lexington, Ky., during the summer of 2004.

Walter S. Robertson, II is a native of Lexington, Ky.  He is a member of the Business & Finance Service Group.  Robertson graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2006.  Before joining Stites & Harbison, Robertson was a legal clerk at Gess, Mattingly & Atchison of Lexington, Ky., and at Iverson, Yoakum, Papiano & Hatch of Los Angeles.

Michael E. Kleinert, a native of Louisville, Ky., is a member of the Business Litigation Service Group.  He graduated in 2006 from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.  He was the senior articles editor of the Brandeis Law Journal, Vol. 44.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison as an associate, Kleihert served as a summer associate in the firm's Louisville, Ky., office, in 2004 and 2005.

Claire A. Mosher is a native of Raleigh, N.C.  She is a member of the Business Litigation Service Group.  Mosher is a 2006 graduate of the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law where she served as a member of the Brandeis Law Journal.  Mosher served as a Summer Associate for Stites & Harbison's Louisville, Ky., office in 2004 and 2005.  Before that she was a market research assistant, November 2002 to August 2003, for DBM Thompson, Executive Coaching Division in Raleigh, N.C.

Amanda S. Nall is a native of Louisville, Ky., and a member of the Real Estate & Banking Service Group.  She is a 2006 graduate of the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, Louisville, Ky.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, Nall served as a summer associate for the firm's Louisville, Ky., office for 2004 and 2005.  She also served as a legal assistant in the Law Offices at 517 West Ormsby Street in Louisville, Ky., since 1997.

Jeremy J. Nelson, a native of Louisville, Ky., is a member of the Real Estate & Banking Service Group.  He graduated in 2006 from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, Nelson was a legal intern, summer 2004, with the Kentucky Real Estate Commission based in Louisville, Ky.  Before that he was a research assistant to Professor Karen Jordan at the Brandeis School of Law in 2004.  From 1996 to 2003, Nelson was a mathematics teacher for the Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, Ky.

Christina I. Ryan is a native of Russellville, Ind.  She is a member of the Intellectual Property & Technology Service Group.  She is a 2006 graduate of Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington, Ind., where she served as a managing editor of the Indiana Law Journal.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, Ryan was a legal intern for Student Legal Services, Indiana University–Bloomington.  Before that she was a summer associate, 2005, for Stites & Harbison's Louisville, Ky., office.

Brandon W. Smith is a native of New Albany, Ind.  He is a member of the Torts & Insurance Practice Service Group.  He graduated in 2006 from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, Mr. Smith was a summer associate, 2004 and 2005, in the firm's Louisville, Ky., office.  Before that he earned a Masters Degree in History from the University of Florida.  Prior to attending graduate school, he worked as a medical claims representative for Progressive Auto Insurance in Louisville, Ky.

Emily A. Whelan, a native of Louisville, Ky., is a member of the Business Litigation Service Group.  She graduated, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington D.C., in 2003.  Prior to Stites & Harbison, Whelan was a law clerk for Chief Judge John G. Heyburn, II, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky, from 2005 to 2006.  Before that she was a litigation associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell of NY., and Menlo Park, Ca., from 2003 to 2005.

Cassie J. Wiemken is a native of Eldorado, Ill.  She graduated in 2006 from Washington University School of Law, St. Louis, Mo.  She is a member of the Business Litigation Service Group.  Before joining Stites & Harbison, she worked as a student representative of Westlaw in St. Louis, Mo.  She also served as a summer associate for Stites & Harbison's Louisville, Ky., office in 2005.  Prior to that she worked as an LSAT teacher at The Princeton Review in St. Louis, Mo.  Before that she worked as a legal intern for the U.S. Attorney's Office, Fairview Heights and Benton, Ill., summer 2004.

Robert C. Yang is a native of Richmond, Va.  He is a member of the Intellectual Property & Technology Service Group.  He graduated, cum laude, from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law in 2006.  He is a registered patent attorney and his practice focus is patent prosecution.  Before joining Stites & Harbison, he worked as a summer associate, 2004 and 2005, in the Louisville, Ky., office.  Prior to that he worked in various process engineering positions for Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

Here is a closer look at the Nashville, Tenn., attorneys.  All three are admitted to practice in Tennessee.

Miranda Rae Christy is a native of Germantown, Ky.  She is a member of the Real Estate & Banking Service Group.  She is a 2006 graduate of the University of Tennessee College of Law in Knoxville, Tenn.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, Christy was a research assistant to Professor Joan Heminway, from February to August 2006, at the University of Tennessee College of Law.  Before that she served as a summer associate, 2005, for the Nashville, Tenn., office of Stites & Harbison.

Rebecca K. McKelvey, a native of Hillsboro, Tenn., is a member of the Trusts & Estate Planning/Domestic Service Group.  She is a 2006 graduate of Mercer University Walter F. George School of Law in Macon, Ga.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, McKelvey was an intern for Judge Duross Fitzpatrick, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, and for Judge William P. Adams, State Court of Bibb County, Georgia – both during the summer of 2004.

Lauren Paxton Roberts is a native of High Point, N.C. and a member of the Business Litigation Service Group.  She is a May 2005 graduate of Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Va.  Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, she clerked for Herbert C. Gill, Jr. of the 12th Circuit of Virginia, from 2005 to 2006.  She worked as a summer associate in the Nashville, Tenn., office in 2005.  She also served as a summer associate for Nexsen Pruet Adams Kleemeier, PLLC, Greensboro, N.C., and as a summer associate for Wyatt Early Harris Wheeler, LLP, High Point, N.C.- both in 2004.
