Program Overview

Facebook. Twitter. Blogs. LinkedIn. And now "the Cloud."  Companies large and small continue to face an ever-growing number of options in which they can freely create, publish, and store digital content.  But do you really own the content that your business has worked so hard to create?

Disputes and lawsuits over who owns the content of information stored in the Cloud or posts on social media sites are all too commonplace.  What they teach has far-reaching impact to any business with an on-line presence: simply creating copyrightable work does not necessarily mean that you or your business owns the copyright.

Digital content will not always be protected under traditional principles of copyright law.  Digital content is simply treated differently, and the ever growing number of exceptions being carved into the law promises that who and what are protected under the copyright laws will continue to evolve along with the Internet.

What to expect

Join us for an engaging, interactive and informative presentation, presented by Mari-Elise Taube, that will help you protect your business's copyrights while avoiding infringement by:

  1. identifying works subject to copyrights,
  2. understanding your copyright interests as a business owner,
  3. identifying the limitations and exceptions of using copyrighted works in this digital age, and
  4. recognizing key considerations of web content responsibility as well as issues to consider in offering users legal access to copyrighted content.
