Seminar Overview

Realizing it or not, every business regularly deals with intellectual property, commonly referred to as IP.  This includes IP the business itself could protect, as well as (hopefully) avoiding infringing the IP rights of others.  Our program will provide an overview of the basics of IP, including patent, trademark and copyright principles with some focus on the issues most often pertinent to the building and construction industries such as the troubling issue of IP ownership rights associated with architectural and engineering drawings, and building designs.

Our program will provide attendees with a basic understanding of the following:

  1. IP in General: What is protectable by patent?  What is protectable by trademark?  What is protectable by copyright?
  2. How to determine who owns the IP rights in building designs and drawings.  How to insure that YOU do.

What to Expect

Thirsty Thursdays are networking events which take place the fourth Thursday of every month from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. on the 20th floor of Stites & Harbison's Louisville office.  The program starts off with a half-hour of networking with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, followed by a short presentation and more networking.
