Stites & Harbison has represented the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Airport Board as its General Counsel since October 1999. The firm has provided representation at board meetings, prepared and negotiated leases, responded to open records requests, reviewed and approved federal AIP grant agreements and reviewed and approved state grant agreements. In addition, the firm has handled employment issues for the Airport Board, as well as employee benefits matters, litigation, land acquisition, environmental issues, compliance with FAA grant assurances and negotiations with concessionaires and tenants.

Stites & Harbison's lawyers (led by Tom Halbleib) have assisted the Airport Board in the construction of runway safety areas at both ends of its major commercial runway, including evaluation of alternatives and the FAA approval process. Construction currently under way involves the acquisition of substantial farm property, significant site work, construction of paved runway safety areas, revenue bond financing and other related matters.

The Lexington-Fayette County authority is one of several major airport providers for which the firm has provided legal support. In addition, our attorneys provide legal counsel to airport authorities in Nashville, Louisville and Atlanta.
