Wallace Farm, Prospect, Ky.
Related Information
The Henry Wallace farm has been in the family since 1911, when the first 87 acres were purchased. Over the years, the farm has grown to 600 acres, with dramatic vistas and pristine woods along the Ohio River.
Suburban Louisville has grown, too. Nearly up to the farm's scenic doorstep.
That's why River Fields, Inc., a local land trust, and the Wallace family sought out the help of Stites & Harbison, led by attorney Bob Griffith. They drafted a conservation easement which will protect the land from development forever. When the easement was announced, it was valued at $8.1 million, making it one of the largest gifts of its kind in Kentucky.
The Wallace easement is only a recent example of large and complex conservation easements handled by the firm. In addition to its work on the Wallace farm and other agreements for River Fields, Stites & Harbison has played a significant role in easements granted to The Bluegrass Conservancy and to The Land Trust for Tennessee.
