Community Involvement
Jim Cotey joined the Nashville office as an Associate in October 2003. He is a member of the Real Estate & Banking Service Group. Mr. Cotey represents lenders in connection with commercial lending transactions and works in the areas of sales and acquisitions of improved and unimproved real property, leasing, and commercial banking, with a focus on secured and unsecured loans. He also has significant experience in medical office building development and leasing.
Recent Assignments
- Represented hospital in the preparation, negotiation and closing of an exchange of real properties and the development of a two-story 40,000 square foot medical office building for a physicians group
- Represented land-owner hospital in the drafting, negotiation and closing of a ground lease of real property to physician investors, and the development of an approximately 46,000 square foot medical office building
- Represented publicly-traded REIT in the analysis, preparation, negotiation, and closing of the purchase and leaseback of four assisted living facilities
- Represented manufacturer of automotive components in the subdividing and re-platting of commercial real estate, and the negotiation and drafting of documentation for a $70 million bond facility for the sale, leaseback, and construction of new site improvements
- Represented publicly-traded REIT in the preparation, analysis, negotiation, and closing of a $13 million construction loan for a seventy (70) bed licensed nursing facility, including an option to purchase and leaseback the project

Mr. Cotey is an assistant to the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners. Jim also recently served as an appointee by Governor Bredesen on the Board of Directors for the Regional Transportation Authority for the greater Nashville area.

Jim enjoys hiking, traveling and spending time with his wife, Lara, and his two daughters, Lillian and Mary.
