Steve Cooper focuses on corporate law. He has experience in mergers and acquisitions, negotiation and preparation of commercial agreements and distribution and supply agreements; corporate finance and international business transactions.
Mr. Cooper has also advised clients on wrongful discharge, discrimination and other aspects of employee relations. Mr. Cooper has also counseled numerous companies engaged in the direct sales of goods and services in the United States and overseas.
He previously served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Electrolux Corp.
Recent Assignments
- Coordinated all aspects of a $400 million sale of a subsidiary of a major international tobacco company to the second largest tobacco company in the United States.
- Handled the sale of the US and Canadian trademarks of a major home appliance brand to the world's largest appliance manufacturer.
- Counseled a major direct seller of educational products with respect to the establishment of a credit facility.

Before Stites & Harbison
Mr. Cooper was a partner with Varner Stephens Humphries & White. Before that he held various senior management and legal positions, including Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Electrolux Corporation from 1973-1998. Mr. Cooper began his legal career as an associate with Dewey Ballantine in New York City.
More than Stites & Harbison
Mr. Cooper has served on the Columbia College Alumni Council since 1997 and is the former President of the Columbia University Club of Atlanta. He is a member of the National Council of the American Jewish Committee and a member of the National Legal Committee of the American Jewish Committee. Mr. Cooper has served on the boards of directors of the Direct Selling Association and the Direct Selling Educational Foundation.
Besides Stites & Harbison
Steve is a globetrotter, having visited over 40 countries, some as part of walking tours. He also is an avid reader of history and at one point seriously considered a career as a history professor.
