Ken is a member of the Environmental, Natural Resources and Energy Service Group where his practice focuses on complex facility permitting, renewable and alternative energy development, sustainability, hazardous waste remediation, compliance with regulatory requirements and environmental litigation. Ken represents the firm’s clients in all stages of the permitting process from application to appeals before administrative bodies and in state and federal court. Ken also assists clients in managing regulatory compliance matters arising from federal, state and local laws.
Recent Assignments
- Representing project developer of a 700 MW coal gasification to natural gas project against challenges to the project's Title V air permit and water pollutant discharge permit
- Managing the environmental due diligence process for a client hospital system in the merger of that system with two other hospital systems
- Negotiating agreed orders with the Commonwealth of Kentucky allowing for a surety reclamation project at an abandoned surface coal mine

Before Stites & Harbison
Ken practiced in the Seattle office of K&L Gates, LLP. He is a former Director of the Northwest Environmental Business Council (2009-10) and a former vice chair for technology and membership of the American Bar Association's Water Resources Committee. Ken is currently a member of the ABA's Renewable, Alternative and Distributed Energy Resources Committee.
Prior to entering law school, Ken served as a watch and division officer on USS San Juan (SSN-751), a nuclear-powered fast attack submarine.
More than Stites & Harbison
Ken serves on the Board of Directors for Bluegrass PRIDE, a non-profit organization that provides environmental education and outreach services throughout Central Kentucky.
Besides Stites & Harbison
Ken is an avid soccer fan, player and coach and enjoys cycling as well. Ken also spends his free time chasing after his two small children.
