Juan Carlos Marquez is a Member of the firm based in the Alexandria office, where he is a member of the Intellectual Property & Technology Service Group. He has over 20 years of experience in patent prosecution, intellectual property licensing and enforcement, and technology transfer. He is a Registered Patent Attorney and has a background in electrical engineering. Mr. Marquez has an extensive patent law practice in preparing and prosecuting patent applications world-wide in a wide variety of technological arts, in drafting patentability, validity, infringement and right-to-use opinions, and in supporting IP litigation matters. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications over the 20 year period of his career in a wide variety of technological arts. He regularly counsels clients on patent procurement, validity, infringement, licensing and other intellectual property business-related issues.

Recent Assignments
- Lead attorney in representing a major Japanese electronics manufacturer in a patent infringement/licensing negotiation against a Korean manufacturer that resulted in the Japanese manufacturer receiving one of its most profitable licensing agreements in company history. He has represented Taiwanese data storage media manufacturers in resolving U.S. Customs seizures. Mr. Marquez is currently representing a Taiwanese wireless communications equipment manufacturer in ongoing patent licensing negotiations.

Mr. Marquez is registered to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans' Claims, and has represented indigent veterans before the Court and before the Board of Veterans' Appeals at the Department of Veterans' Affairs on a pro bono basis. He is the Chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, and a regular speaker/moderator at the IPBA Annual Conference.

Mr. Marquez enjoys golfing, tennis and martial arts. He is a self-described computer hardware geek who plays computer games and builds desktop computers for home use in his spare time.
