David Nagle is a Registered Patent Attorney and has been with the Louisville office's Intellectual Property & Technology Service Group since its inception. He holds an advanced engineering degree, and his technical knowledge consistently allows him to better understand his clients' business needs and processes.

David has extensive experience prosecuting domestic and foreign patent applications covering a wide range of subject matter, including consumer goods, mechanical devices, software and business methods. He also counsels clients on trademark and copyright issues, and he regularly negotiates and prepares licensing agreements and other contracts implicating intellectual property rights. David is recognized as a Certified Licensing Professional (CLP™), a designation which acknowledges licensing professionals who have demonstrated their experience and proficiency in licensing and the commercialization of intellectual property.
Recent Assignments
- Serves as outside patent counsel to one of the world's leading restaurant companies, developing appropriate patent strategies to protect new food products, food preparation methods, and related equipment
- Developed a comprehensive intellectual property plan that protected a new product line for a leading beverage equipment manufacturer
- Assisted a developing lighting company in filing patent applications related to its core technology in more than 30 countries, and subsequently prepared and negotiated distributorship and license agreements for its foreign distributors

Before Stites & Harbison
Prior to joining Stites & Harbison, David was an Associate with Wheat, Smith & Beres, which merged into Stites & Harbison on January 1, 2000. As a mechanical engineering undergraduate, he worked in a generation facility for a major Midwestern utility company.
More than Stites & Harbison
David serves on the Board of Trustees for WLKY-TV's Spirit of Louisville Foundation. He is also a member of Holy Trinity Church and volunteers as a youth sports coach. In 2009, Mr. Nagle was named to the "Forty Under 40" list by Business First of Louisville.
Besides Stites & Harbison
David is an avid sports fan and spends many of his weekends attending college football and basketball games.
