Ozair Shariff recognized as One of the New Voices in Philanthropy by The Voice-Tribune

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—The Voice-Tribune, in partnership with the Community Foundation of Louisville, recently recognized Stites & Harbison, PLLC attorney Ozair Shariff in the inaugural class of New Voices in Philanthropy 2017.  Shariff was among the five young professionals honored with this award presented by Delta Dental.  They each received a $1,000 grant to be given to their chosen nonprofit.  Shariff selected the Muhammad Ali Center as his grant recipient as he was nominated for his role as a board member of the Muhammad Ali Center.

Stites & Harbison obtains summary judgment dismissing the CFPB's kickback claims against Borders & Borders, PLC

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Ending four years of litigation and a six-year investigation, on July 12, 2017, U.S. District Court Judge Charles Simpson entered summary judgment dismissing all the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s (CFPB) claims against Borders & Borders, PLC.  Consumer Fin. Prot. Bureau v. Borders & Borders, PLC, NO. 3:13-CV-1047, Dkt. #157 (W.D. Ky. July 12, 2017).  The decision rejected the CFPB’s publicized allegations that Borders & Borders paid “illegal kickbacks” in violation of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act (RESPA).
